All superannuation funds have been told by regulators to report by midday Monday if they have been breached in the coordinated cyberattack that rocked some of the nation’s largest retirement savings managers last week.
The Australian Financial Review revealed on Friday that hackers had broken into accounts at AustralianSuper and Australian Retirement Trust – the two biggest funds with a combined $676 billion under management. Other funds REST, Hostplus and the MLC Expand platform run by the ASX-listed Insignia Financial were hit, with 9000 accounts breached and $500,000 lost.
