Donald Trump says he has ambitions to compete with Australia on coal production after signing executive orders designating the fossil fuel as a mineral and vowing to reinvigorate an industry that is in steep decline.
Describing coal as “beautiful and clean”, the US president signed an order on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST) to designate the commodity as a critical mineral to turbocharge its supply by streamlining project approvals and boosting public and private investment.
