Macquarie Securities is being sued by the corporate regulator, which alleges that the company engaged in misleading conduct by misreporting millions of short sales to the market operator between 2009 and 2024.

The action has been lodged in the NSW Supreme Court, where the Australian Securities and Investment Commission claims that Macquarie – part of the global investment bank Macquarie Group – underreported the volume of short sales by at least 73 million over the 15-year period.
