Woodside Energy’s decision to push ahead with its $27 billion LNG plant in Louisiana will provide investors with endless strategic minutiae to dig into.

The market can and should debate whether the project really will beat Woodside’s internal rate of return target of 12 per cent. Whether Woodside chief executive Meg O’Neill has struck the right balance between today’s returns and tomorrow’s capital investment.
