The “robust” risk management that has contributed to Macquarie Group’s 56 years of unbroken profitability looks decidedly weak – in particular, the laughable accountability for failure.

This reflects poorly on chief executive Shemara Wikramanayake and the board of directors, led by former Reserve Bank of Australia governor Glenn Stevens.
