Podcaster Don Meij’s re-emergence has been a welcome chance to take another look at his 22-year record running the ASX-listed Domino’s. Successor Mark van Dyck is trying to salvage the company’s European expansion strategy, with a share price at an 11-year low.
Another mouldy pie in his in-tray is a landmark wage theft case. This was a class action that started in 2019. The lead plaintiff is Riley Gall, a young bloke who is alleged to have not been paid penalty rates for overtime and public holidays when he was slinging pizzas at Domino’s. At the time, the Retail and Fast Food Workers Union alleged that up to 30,000 former and current employees could have similarly been underpaid in a period stretching from 2013 to 2018.
